The area surveyed roughly corresponds to the geographic boundaries of the foundation. West Virginia has a high rate of home ownership: about 75% of the population in the survey area own their own homes and approximately 84% of the population were born in the state of residence. The more rural the area of Boone County has almost 20% of its population living below the poverty level. The rate in the Metropolitan area is lower, approximately 12%.
