Naren and Vinita Gupta

“Vinita and I migrated to the US from India to attend college (California Institute of Technology, Stanford and UCLA) and then ended up becoming a part of the community,” says Naren Gupta. “We are very grateful for the support we received from everyone during the early years in the U.S. We would like to help the future generations realize their dreams.”

Investing in the future is one reason why the Guptas supported Community Foundation Silicon Valley’s Community Investment Fund and created a family fund. The Community Investment Fund endowment was created in 2004 to celebrate the Community Foundation’s 50th Anniversary.

“The endowment serves two major purposes. First it gives an opportunity to support community projects on a continuing basis in both good times and bad. Secondly, it allows the Community Foundation to provide a rapid response, particularly in case of unforeseen or natural disasters, which we have experienced plenty of in the recent past,” Naren says.

Vinita and Naren’s philanthropic interests include education and community development. As a high tech executive, Naren sees the need to invest in the region’s future.

“ Silicon Valley offers a very dynamic and stimulating environment. This environment has led to some of the major developments that are transforming the way we live,” he says. “However, it is also a very difficult place for young families and some of those that are key to our quality of life – teachers, store employees, gardeners, even younger physicians. We need to create a good and affordable environment for everyone to have families in this area. Else we are likely to lose the vitality that has made Silicon Valley what it is today.”
