“Sacred Heart was one of the first nonprofits I learned about when I moved here almost twelve years ago,” says Christine Harris. “There is always a need for direct services to communities - especially poor ones - beyond what government can or should provide, and it was clear to me that Sacred Heart was fulfilling a much-needed service and doing it well.”

Over the years, Christine has volunteered in the clothing room and food pantry at Sacred Heart, bringing her children and students she has mentored at Lincoln High School in San Jose. She’s already planning to involve her granddaughters and godchildren.

“I think it is very important that we involve as many young people as possible in service so they will feel they have a stake in the community,” she says.

A former radio and television journalist, Christine supports the arts and education as well as human services organizations like Sacred Heart. She is active in San Jose Rotary and has served on numerous boards, in addition to advising a fund at the Community Foundation.

“CFSV has done a good job of keeping me informed of the needs in the community and where my funds are best directed,” Christine says. “While I make the recommendations, it is good having guidance from CFSV.”
